If there’s one thing I believe is common to most cancer patients and survivors, it’s that we were all blind-sided by the disease. It just showed up one day and none of us saw it coming. As one of my friends put it, “I got hit upside the head by a brick.” Yep, we sure did. I was completely thrown by that fact and wondered how I could have been so out of touch with my own body. Raise your hand if that thought has ever crossed your mind!

So, is it possible to understand what creates sickness and use that know-how to prevent illness going forward?  The answer is, “Yes.” The surprise is that it has very little to do with the physical and a lot to do with the mental, emotional and spiritual components of our lives. Why? Because of cause and effect. The level of cause is not in the physical realm. Everything begins at the level of the mind. The effect, or result of all of our thoughts, beliefs and emotions, is what shows up for us to experience. Once I fully grasped that idea, I understood that to get healthy and stay healthy, I needed to take a look at the strategies I was using to get through the day. Every time I had a negative experience, I reviewed what I had been thinking and feeling just before it happened. It didn’t take long to see that every event was tied to a negative belief rooted in fear and some feeling of lack, like not having enough time, money, love, happiness or self-worth. By slowing down to see what was running through my mind, I was able to see where the problems were coming from. It didn’t take long to realize that nothing was being done to me; it was being done by me.

The universal Law of Attraction states that you reap what you sow. That’s because the universe is holographic; it mirrors back to you whatever you put out energetically. So, to get beyond cancer, I had to focus on thoughts that keep my immune system vibrating above the frequency of disease. What this means is that good health is an inside job. At first, I wanted to resist that notion because it was easier to blame someone or something else for my problems. But I knew that by doing that, I was saying to the universe that I wasn’t able to do it differently. That meant if I kept on with those beliefs and strategies, I would never heal since I was behaving like a victim and giving away my power. The decision to become the captain of my own ship and make decisions with conscious intent instead of making others guilty for my projections or waiting for someone to ride in on a white horse and save me has made it possible to live a healthy life.

I now strive to think “high vibe” and forgive everything as I move through the day. When I do let a negative thought in, I thank it for showing up so I can look at the belief that’s behind it that needs to be healed. Then I replace it with a more loving thought. Most importantly, I make it a point to work on being loving to myself. Do you stand in front of the mirror and tell yourself, “I am a beautiful, powerful, divine being?” If you don’t, start today.

Be mindful of what you are thinking, because every thought you have right now is what’s creating your next moment. We are powerfully creative and whatever we focus on is what we get more of. If you don’t want more of the same in your future, change your mind and broadcast thoughts of joy, gratitude, and love. And keep doing that! Stand in your light. Make it a point to dismiss every negative thought you have every day and keep walking forward with loving intent. That’s the path to true wellness and I look forward to seeing you there.
